Eye of the Beholder

It amazes me sometimes what people find humorous.

Apparently, nastiness and cruelty and humor at the expense of others is funny to some people. It's even encouraged by some.

Rape, too is fodder for jokes of all sorts.

And violence. Let's not forget violence. That's a laugh riot.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean, I laugh at what I've been through as a defense mechanism, but people that know me know better than to make jokes about things like that or I'll bite their head off.

I think some people (and you know who I mean) say things purely to start a controversy. I try to ignore it now - try being the operative word.

There are very few things that I can find absolutely no humor in, but domestic violence and rape are definitely in that category.

I know that if I respond to someone who makes jokes about it, I will come across sounding like a crazy lady because it makes me so upset that some people just don't get it. Do they really lack that compassion gene? Are people really that callous toward strangers? Is it just immaturity?
